Understand the structure

How to read the structure.

Four pillars hold the structure.

Year, Month, Day, and Hour each describe a different position in the chart. Together they form the eight characters of BaZi.

Stems and branches make each pair.

Each pillar pairs a Heavenly Stem above with an Earthly Branch below. Both carry a phase—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water—and a yin or yang polarity.

The Day Master is the reference point.

The stem of the Day pillar is the Day Master. Other stems are described in relation to it through the Ten Gods framework.

Hidden stems add an inner layer.

Each branch contains one or more hidden stems. Expanding a pillar reveals those stems and their structural relationship to the Day Master.

Five Phase presence is descriptive.

The totals count visible and hidden stem appearances without weighting them. Presence is not the same as strength, balance, deficiency, or a prescribed remedy.

Boundaries matter.

BaZi years and months change at solar terms, and the Day pillar changes at local midnight under Birthprint’s documented method. A birth near a boundary may produce a clear warning or a bounded set of alternatives.

Local time matters.

Birthplace resolves the historical local time zone. This calculator uses local civil time without true-solar-time or longitude correction, so the method stays explicit and repeatable.

Four Pillars questions, answered.

What does BaZi mean?

BaZi means “Eight Characters.” A Four Pillars chart contains four pairs of characters—one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch for the year, month, day, and hour of birth.

What is the Day Master?

The stem of the Day pillar is called the Day Master. It is the chart’s central point of reference for relationships among the Five Phases and Ten Gods. This calculator shows that structure without turning it into a personality verdict.

What if I do not know my birth time?

You can still calculate the Year, Month, and Day pillars. The Hour pillar and hour-derived details remain unavailable rather than being guessed. A birth date near a solar-term boundary may also show alternatives.

Why do time and birthplace matter?

BaZi month and year boundaries follow solar terms, not ordinary calendar months or January 1. Birthplace also provides the historical local time zone used to resolve the birth moment.

Is this an AI reading, and are my details saved?

No. The calculation is deterministic and runs without an AI reading. Birthprint does not save the details unless you choose to continue into a full Birthprint.

How is this different from a full Birthprint?

This tool shows chart structure only. A full Birthprint connects BaZi / Four Pillars with Western astrology, numerology, and focused Vedic astrology, then creates a cross-system synthesis.
